Win – win partnerships between smallholder producers and public and private (4P) entities supported
- The goals achieved annually exceeded the target. In 2022/23 Planned targetwas 5 large grants. so far,11 large grants have been achieved, representing
220% annual achievement and 22% cumulative achievement against 50 cumulative
target. The grants will be distributed in instalments in the next 3 years.
Infrastructure to support VC development built/ rehabilitated
- In2022/23 the Infrastructure section was involved in the development of: an
inventory for RLEEP infrastructure condition/status inventory for rehabilitation works prioritization; an inventory for RLEEP potential bridge project sites for design reviews; structural and architectural designs for climate change smart and resilient road structures including reinforced concrete bridges;Tender dossiers for road and bridge works, and building structures; TORs and RFPs for recruiting a Supervising Engineer; Supervision
checklist/tool document for civil and building Works Inspectors; Undertaking of Stakeholder infrastructure rolling-out briefing meeting. Finally, TRADE awarded 20(18 for roads and bridges and 2 for rehabilitation of warehouses.) contracts for various infrastructure works.
Business skills of smallholders producers to engage in commercial agriculture strengthened
- 14 service providers have been awarded contracts.
- 54 FBOS (18 were for oilseeds, 3 potatoes, 7 Honey, 10 beef and 16 dairies) assessed in there willingness and commitment in commercialisation
Production skills of smallholder producers to engage in commercial agriculture strengthened
- Under this output, 58% of 127,000 household target has been registered. Smallholder producers’ and FBOs access to financial services increased
FBO’s skills for collective services and market linkages provided
- 38,372(22,768F and 15,604 M) Smallholder farmers trained in both cooperative management and group dynamics training Increased knowledge and access to CSA technologies/practices
Knowledge and access to CSA technologies/practices increased
A total of 35 officers (23 Males and 12 Females) were trained and capacitated in the SECAP knowledge. 722 FBOs against the 1000 target earmarked for 2022/23 FY have been trained in climate smart agriculture. Developed and Environment and

- TRADE has engaged FARMSE to support TRADE beneficiaries with capitalenhancing by promoting village savings and loans interventions which are
championed by FARMSE Programme.
Capacity to influence policy and formal business arrangements increased
- TRADE facilitated the coordination meeting between Ministry ofTrade and Industry and Malawi Bee Keepers Association to consolidate action plans
which have been developed by the two institutions to assist in uplifting export
ban of honey which the European Union imposed on Malawi early 2000.
Institutional capacity and knowledge mgt.for VC development
- Trained 40 Technicians in Artificial Insemination and Pregnancy Diagnosis (PD). 20 Public AI (AVOs) and 20 Private AI ( Farmers) from Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Blantyre and Thyolo.
- 172 (78 F, 94 M) have been identified and trained Gender Action Learning System (GALs) Experts in 11 districts as one of the ways of ensuring that the programme is gender sensitive
- Officers from TRADE PMU, Ministry of Local Government and Thyolo District Council had the learning to Rwanda
- 35 TRADE positions at the PMU were filled
- Conducted an information need assessment
- Developed Knowledge management and Communications Strategy
- An Assessment of ICT environment in Malawi
- Developed IEC materials (English, Chichewa, Tumbuka ACIF brochure and 7 Commodity Brochures were disseminated to all the EPAs TRADE is targeting.
- Documented the video documentary which consolidated RLEEP Interventions.
